2300 Parts per Million refers to the levels of PCBs in the mud of the Housatonic River where a General Electric plant existed. This piece is comprised of a set of glass ducks each attached to hand well pumps and mounted to a pedestrian bridge. The pumps draw water from the river below when pumped by viewers. Over the course of several months, viewers pumped water though the ducks when using the bridge. Their actions infused the glass ducks with natural sediment and algae. This transformation from pristine to contaminate mirrors the plight of actual ducks whose breast tissue becomes imbedded with PCBs when they feed off the river bottom.
