Home Improvements
The wood turtle in many places across the American landscape has been placed on the ‘threatened’ species list. This cause and effect piece depicts the wood turtles' demise and calls attention to the countless mammals, birds, insects, and plants whose habitats have been swallowed up by housing developments. In this case, rainwater is captured by a copper gutter where the slow drip causes the disintegration of a soap replica of the wood turtle.
This piece was originally exhibited outside for several months where rain fall slowly caused the encased turtle to degrade. Collaboration with Amos Scully.
